What do you guys think? Should I start up a social justice blog/current affairs/educational blog that I can post stuff from school and my perspective on hot button issues? I already have a few posts about gender and gender stereotyping in children that I would really like to share with the blogosphere.
So it’s that time of year again - the time of year where the three month convention break is over, and the planning for the following year’s convention begins once again.
It’s a bit crazy to think that I’ve been volunteering for this convention for four full years already, and that this coming year will be my fifth in the position as Volunteer Coordinator. Whacky, huh? I started doing this when I was 17, and I’ll be 21 for this next year’s.
There’s so much to do, so much to plan. We have so many ideas already for things we want to do - between trying to get the Pacific and Asian Studies department working together with the local school district to make a cultural event for years that the Friday doesn’t coincide with a Pro-D Day with the local high schools. That would be so cool!
I’m thinking of taking over Artists of Steel, but I want to do a new take on it, and I have no idea how to approach it. Me and my friend who organizes the AMV contest have new ideas on how to approach that, and we need to decide what our secondary event is beyond the AMV contest (more of a showcase really), and the AMV Smackdown (one of the convention’s most well attended and anticipated events, which I’m proud to host - pretty sure there’s a video from 2013 that has me dancing around on stage with a Gumi cosplayer!)
We need to decide themes, overhaul the website, develop a more professional front for the con, and I personally need to train my new deputy and start rebuilding the volunteer application, rework the format for the training sessions, figure out a better recruitment method, and then create a cohesive and structured code of conduct and expectations for volunteers up to and during the convention.
So much to do, and so little time, despite it being 9 months until the next one starts!
